About Us

Forty-eight years ago Frank O'Brien Sr. had the germ of idea. That idea was to create a labor force capable of installing commercial flooring competently and efficiently. He began with a core group of installers, performing work for most of the large commercial flooring firms in the greater New Orleans area. As time passed, the expertise and quality of the O'Brien installers took them throughout the gulf south, from the rural gymnasiums of Alabama and Mississippi to the hospitals and high rise office buildings of Baton Rouge and New Orleans. With a concentration in the parishes of Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, and St. Tammany, the O'Brien Flooring name became interwoven into the fabric of the southeastern Louisiana flooring industry.

In the progression of time, O'Brien's flooring installers, Carl Alford, Jr., Rudy Crawford, Frank O'Brien, Jr. and Michael O'Brien, were recognized for their talents and became the first certified to install heat-welded Armstrong Medintech® in the state of Louisiana. And as such, O'Brien flooring has always been at the forefront on the cutting edge of technology in the flooring industry, not just with the installation of new products, but also leading the way in new product application.

With the retirement of Frank O'Brien, Sr., sons Michael (President) and Frank Jr. (Vice President) acquired the business and retooled to add the material sales aspect to the already established and thriving labor force that had become O'Brien Flooring, Inc. Since that time the face of O'Brien Flooring has changed as the business has grown, while still maintaining the emphasis on quality and efficiency. Hard surfaces (ceramic, porcelain, and quarry) were added to the sales, as well as the labor aspect of the business, and an office/warehouse was purchased, located at 189 Commercial Square in Slidell.

That was 1999. Now today, autumn 2008, O'Brien Flooring has grown four-fold and the many faucets of the company have changed and evolved to keep pace with our rapidly changing industry and the world around us. O'Brien Flooring employs all the latest technologies with regard to the modern flooring industry both in the field as well as in the office. As a foundation to every project, a comprehensive computerized take off is rendered using the most modern estimating system available. This system is the pinnacle for estimation programs in the flooring industry. The O'Brien Flooring office is as green as possible, receiving and using 95% of all plans through electronic pathways (emails or discs), utilizing the PDF, DWG, and TIF formats. The bid process, in turn, employs email via the internet to further reduce the footprint left on the environment, consuming as few paper products as possible. The O'Brien installers are equipped with color-coded prints for each project thereby reducing errors in communication for all jobs, no matter the size. From inception to fruition, the O'Brien Flooring concept is one of service, performance, and environmental responsibility.

The new home of O'Brien Flooring, Inc. is located in the Johnny Smith Industrial Park located off of U S Hwy 11 North. Although the original building has been outgrown, the care and attention to detail that helped propel the company to the place held today in the Southeastern Louisiana Flooring industry is still apparent in the staff of O'Brien Flooring. With a combined 185 years of experience, the estimation and operational personnel are equipped to answer almost any question or suggest a resolution to any situation. With an attitude toward service, a penchant for quality, and being driven forward into the future, O'Brien Flooring has earned a reputation for being the best, and proudly ascribes to the motto:
